Watermill Vaals (NL)

Volmolen De Gouw, also known as the Frankenhof, is situated near Vaals in the beautiful hills of South Limburg (NL).

The Frankenhofmolen in its current state is from 1736. It is an old water mill near Vaals (NL).
The Frankenhofmolen is a special reminder of the heyday of Vaals as the center of the textile industry in the eighteenth century.
The total mill complex consists of a large U-shaped brick building.
Throughout history, the mill as a result of the industrial revolution has been used for various purposes. There was a spinning mill housed, as well as a "vollerij" and a woolen blanket factory. The complex has had a lot to endure. So it twice severely affected by fire, and since the fifties in and around the Frankenhofmolen no
maintenance happened.
Since 2008, the Limburg Landscape foundation bought the building and restored it to its former glory.
With respect for the building this has been done in a sustainable way, using mostly ecological materials and historical construction techniques.
